Cancelled – Keti Koti Dialogue table
During the European Action Week against Racism, March 16-21, the University of Amsterdam (UvA), together with the SeSi community center at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA), are organizing a series of events. With this invitation we would like you to participate in a special event on March 19, 17.00-19.30, when the Keti Koti Table foundation will facilitate a personal dialogue with all participants on the topic of Civil Courage versus Silence. During the dialogue we will reflect together on when and why we personally have the courage to intervene when we’re witnessing a racist incident, or when and why we keep silent instead.
The Chief Diversity Officer Team of the UvA and SeSi Community Center of the AUAS (HvA) are hosting a Keti Koti Table, a newly ‘invented tradition’ which has been developed for the reflection on and commemoration of the abolition of slavery in the Netherlands and its ongoing impact on our society. Inspired by the Jewish Passover Seder table, the African-American Kwanzaa festival and the Dutch Ramadan festival, it combines rituals, choral songs of mourning and freedom, and a shared festive meal, which together create a safe and intimate context conducive for personal exchanges. These exchanges are facilitated with a structured dialogue, addressing questions that have been prepared for this special occasion and ensuring that listening is as equally important as speaking. In the last 5 years, the Keti Koti Table foundation has facilitated dialogues with more than 12,000 participants in numerous museums, libraries, universities and other institutions in the Netherlands and abroad.
Your contribution to this special evening would be much appreciated and we are looking forward to your participation. As seats are limited, we ask you to fill in this RSVP-form asap. After your registration we will send you the details concerning in which UvA building the Keti Koti Table will take place.
Dr. Anne de Graaf (Chief Diversity Officer, UvA)
Dr. Machiel Keestra (Faculty Diversity Officer, UvA; Co-founder Keti Koti Table foundation)
