This new academic year, the UvA is proud to be part of the Amsterdams Akkoord Hoger Onderwijs (Amsterdam Accord for Higher Education ). Geert ten Dam, Chairman of the CvB (College van Bestuur; the UvA’s Executive Board) signed the accord on September 22nd, together with eight other educational institutions in Amsterdam: the VU, the HvA, the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, InHolland Hogeschool, Hogeschool iPabo, the Hotelschool The Hague, The Wittenborg University of Applied sciences, and finally the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. This accord solidifies the UvA’s committment to proactively fighting racism and discrimination in higher education.
The Amsterdams Akkoord Hoger Onderwijs focuses on five components: representation, accessibility, shared knowledge production and the development of a safe learning environment. In the Chief Diversity Team, we hope that those measures will contribute effectively to the continuous effort to create a fairer and more welcoming schooling system in the Netherlands.
