New year announcements

by Fatima Kamal.

First of all, a happy new year to everyone! We hope you had a peaceful and lovely holiday and a happy new year!

New website

We want to welcome you to the new updated version of our website! As some might have noticed, the website has been under construction for some time. But now our website is online again and we start fresh with the new year and new energy!

Funding for grassroots initiatives

As mentioned earlier in Anne’s blog, the CDO Team budget has funds available for grassroots initiatives for students: €1000 per month! So, do you have an idea about how to make the UvA more equitable, inclusive and diverse? Then please visit the grassroots funding page.

Events: January 24 Symposium at Crea

“Does everyone have the right to study at the UvA?” This is the theme of an all-day (10:00-16:00) symposium at Crea where students and staff will discuss how having a disability and/or chronic illness impacts academic education. Please go to this link for more information and to register.

Stay tuned for more events co-sponsored by the CDO Team. We’ll post the dates as soon as the speakers are confirmed. We already know that on…

July 4-6 there is the European Conference on Politics and Gender, hosted by the UvA’s Amsterdam Research Centre for Gender and Sexuality (ARC-GS), a central hub for the study of gender and sexuality. You can find more information and register here.

ADP Mentor program

One of our initiatives is the Academic Diversity Program. This is a mentor program for first-year students. Its aim is to help students feel even more at home at the university, develop their full capacities and receive academic, social and personal mentoring. First-year (bachelor’s and master’s) students are paired up with senior students who support them in this phase of their academic life. The senior students of the program have almost completed their training as mentors and we are still accepting applications from first-year students as mentees!

So, are you a first-year student (or do you know first-year students) at the University of Amsterdam and would you like to feel more at home at the university in terms of your academic and personal life? Then you should definitely take a look at our ADP Mentor Program!

You can find more information about the program and the application form here.
